West Virginia ended the first half of its budget year last month with a potential surplus of nearly $75 million due in large part to coal revenues. Level the Playing Field for Coal with CCS

Where would wind generation be without government subsidies? If the past is any indication, nowhere at all. In the last 10 years the production tax credit for wind expired three different times. The average drop-off in the installation of wind capacity the next year was over 80%. Clearly, energy companies need financial incentives to adopt emerging technologies. And so it is with the most promising emerging energy technology of all: clean coal with carbon capture and storage (CCS).

In 1999, the American Academy of Engineering labeled electricity the “single most important engineering achievement of the past century”. And no wonder, electricity is the lifeblood of our modern society.
